This is an FAQ about the policy - the process is described here: https://libanswers.depauw.edu/faq/322825
Can I retrieve books and other materials myself from the stacks?
No. Because of the significant square footage of the library facilities and the challenges to adequately monitor and clean those spaces, stacks in all library buildings will be closed to non-library personnel, including faculty and students. Instead, materials may be requested through the library catalog via our Contactless Pickup Service.
Who can request books and other materials?
During the initial phase of this service, only DePauw University faculty, staff, and students are able to request items for pickup.
How does the Contactless Pickup Service work?
note: follow the link above to see screenshots walking through this process.
- To place a request, search for books, DVDs, and other physical materials in the library catalog.
- Use the Hold button to request items for pickup. You can request up to 20 items at one time.
- When your items are ready, you will receive an email sent to your DePauw email address directing you to use an online calendar to schedule a pickup date and time. (Patrons will receive one email per item they request, BUT only need to request ONE pickup time per group of items requested.)
- On the date of your scheduled pickup appointment, carefully read the instructions you receive in a confirmation email about your scheduled appointment time. It will have details about how to get your items. This email will contain information about the pick-up location.
- Your books will already be checked out to you and placed in a bag, minimizing contact.
- You will enter the Julian Science and Math Center or the GCPA. Please wear a face mask and go to the designated pickup area. Your materials will be labeled with your name. Follow the designated directional arrows to exit the building.
What if I don’t know my DePauw Username and/or Password?
Please contact the HelpDesk for help in resetting your password. If you still can’t log in, you can email your book requests to email@example.com.
If the items I want are at different libraries, can I arrange to pick them all up at one library?
No. At this time, you must pick up the items at the library in which they are located. Items from Roy O. West Library, however, may be requested and picked up at the Prevo Science Library or the Music Library.
How many books/items can I request at a time?
You can request up to 20 items at a time, regardless of library location.
How long will it take for my requested hold to be ready?
Most materials will be ready within a couple of business days (M-F) after you place your request. Once your order is ready, you'll be asked to schedule a pickup appointment. We hope to speed up this process as we learn more about the volume of requests.
Depending on when you schedule your pickup after you receive confirmation that your item was available, we anticipate being able to have your item ready for pickup within 1-2 business days.
Where do I go to pick up the books and other items?
You will be able to pickup items at either Prevo Science Library or the Music Library. Each library has a different location and process for picking up the items.
When I pick up my book, should I clean or disinfect it?
No! Please don’t clean or disinfect library materials. It may damage the materials, and it’s not necessary, given the precautions our staff will be taking. Materials requested for pickup will be placed in bags on carts and quarantined, untouched, for a minimum of 24 hours before materials are placed into the pick-up area. The 24 hour quarantine is based on scientific research on how long coronavirus survives on different surface materials.
Can I bring books/items to return?
Yes. When you come to pick up items, you can return library materials at each location.
What if I need assistance or have a special request for picking up my items?
When you schedule your pickup appointment, you will receive information about how to request assistance.
What are you doing to protect the safety of patrons and library staff?
We are offering this minimal contact pickup service in order to provide maximum social distancing for the safety of our patrons and staff. Staff are using face masks, practicing social distancing while working, and sanitizing surfaces frequently in accordance with guidelines from public health authorities and DePauw University protocols. We are incorporating a 24-hour delay between staff handling books and pick-up. We are also staggering pickup times in order to maximize social distancing between patrons. Additionally, when books are returned, we will enforce a 7 day quarantine period before handling library materials or making them available for checkout.
