Media (films, TV shows, web links, etc.) can be hosted on library Course Reserves, with the understanding that we must follow Copyright law and will adhere to the Copyright process to legally host the requested media.

Please refer to ALA's Resource guide on copyright, which mentions the limitations of the TEACH act, and the U.S. Copyright Office index on fair use for further information.

Can I have videos digitized for Course Reserves so students can view via streaming?

We will do the following:

  1. Check Kanopy, or we can check it for you!
  2. If we already own the DVD (check our catalog- or we can check it for you!)
    1. We can place the DVD on physical course reserves in Roy O. West Library. We also have portable DVD players for students to play DVDs from their devices.
    2. Do you own a personal copy of a DVD? We can also hold your personal copy on our physical Course Reserves.
  3. Is the film available on a viable commercial streaming option (e.g. Netflix, HBO Max)?
    1. If so, you can require your students to subscribe or purchase films from these services as part of the course fees.
    2. We can check to see if there are any copies on various streaming services for you.
